Nothing Wrong With A Little Neediness

While reading news stories on the web this morning I came across one on Yahoo by David Wygant, a relationship coach, on 10 Signs You’re Being Needy.  Written specifically to the men out there, Mr. Wygant hits the highspots of needy behavior and cautions men to look out for some obvious signs of male neediness.  “Nothing turns women off more than a guy who is really needy.”  I disagree.  The truth is nothing turns women off more than a guy who has hair in his ears and reeks of Old Spice.  Needy we don’t really mind so much.

One sign of neediness Mr. Wygant warns is the man who texts a woman he just began dating five or six times a day.  He states this is overdoing it a bit and this type of clingy behavior turns off women.  I would point out that a man who over-texts to this degree is not clingy; he’s goofing off at work and probably won’t get that promotion which would allow him to shower you with flowers and jewelry further down the dating road.  Cross him off your potential mate list and keep looking.

According to Mr. Wygant, another sign of male neediness involves agreeing with everything the woman you’re dating says.  That’s not being needy; that’s being smart.  Devoted Spouse will tell any man – agree now and get used to it, because after you’re married you will discover that agreeing with everything makes your life much easier.  Women know men agree with them to avoid conflict.  We don’t have a problem with that.  In Mr. Wygant’s words, “Women want a man who challenges them and from whom they can learn.”  FROM WHOM THEY CAN LEARN?  Nope, I don’t think so.

Here’s another of Mr. Wygant’s You Know You’re Too Needy When:  “You try to please a woman all the time.  I’m all about men doing nice things for women, but she has to earn it.”  EARN IT?  Well, isn’t that an interesting choice of words.  Wrong again, Mr. Wygant; a woman does want to be pleased all the time.  The more you please us, the more we pay attention and will please you in return.  A win-win situation.

One last piece of advice from the relationship coach: “Don’t be afraid to challenge a woman.  Women are not turned on by men they can completely control.”  Wanna bet?  I’d like to ask Hillary for her opinion on this one.

  1. Hi Wanderer7 – Thanks for wandering in. Hmmm, needy and nerdy – sounds like an okay combination to me. *grin* Linda
